The Summer 2011 DVD is finally done and ready to be released! If you pre-ordered your DVD at Closing Ceremonies in August you should receive an email within the next few days regarding payment and delivery. If you did not pre-order a copy but are interested in in a copy, please contact me at jtdewaal@comcast.net; suggested donations of $15 are appreciated.

Dock Update re: Saturday 10-29

Dock Update:

Reminder that all boats should be out by Saturday, October 29th.

As a result of the new club house footprint, it has been determined that there will no longer be space on the property for winter dock storage. Starting in the fall of 2012, all docks will be stored in the water up Bailey’s Creek. In order to prepare the docks to survive winter storage in the water, it’s necessary to replace the current flotation system with tubs (similar to what is used at the Parker Avenue town docks) this fall. All existing wood will now be approximately 1″ out of the water significantly extending the life of our docks. In addition to the new flotation system, all hardware (fittings/hinges) will also be replaced adding to longer life, creating greater stability and improved saftey for all club members.

Thus, we really just need a clubhouse and grounds winterizing crew on Saturday. You can leave your hard hats at home. And we’ll be done in no time. 10AM!! It’s a new day.

Many thanks to our dedicated dock crews over the years who have put hours into putting in and taking out with our the help of our loyal crane operator. Those were the days…

2011 Season Reflections

Dear Cohasset Sailors,

As we reflect on the golden days of summer there are many accomplishments that as a club we should be proud of:

300 Families joined the club
297 children participated in lessons
Race team sailed from Scituate to Marblehead in
4 regattas
First “John Smith” regatta hosted by CSC with the CYC race teams
2 new 420’s purchased, 2 refurbished
1 New Capri
Survived Hurricane Irene intact
A community of talented volunteers who keep the
club running

New Clubhouse update: Destination Homeport
The fundraising team has been working hard this summer. There have been several events that have brought in much needed donations. Our annual auction at the launch party and Estate Sail have added to our fund for our new clubhouse along with many generous donors. We still have a ways to go… we need your support! Please contact our fundraising chair, Diane Shipp. You can call 383-9198 to become a supporter.

CSC Summer 2011 DVD -Trailer

Here is the trailer that was released tonight at Closing Ceremonies. New this year is the inclusion of video footage taken by the sailors themselves; see what sailing at the Sailing Club is like through their eyes! Donations of $15 are appreciated and all funds raised from the DVD go back to help support the junior program! CSC and CYC – Hands Across The Water…

Last week the 420 race teams from CSC and CYC held a friendly, fun regatta just off the Adams estate. The breeze was beautiful and 13 420′s sailed for several hours enjoying the camaraderie from across the harbor. CSC hosted a cookout afterward and awards ceremony. We hope to continue this tradition each summer.

“Wait!”

Just because Fun Day is over, doesn’t mean sailing is! We still have 2 full weeks of sailing lessons to go before the end of the season and there is still plenty left to do. Here is a list of a few things to mark on your calendar:

The last Porter Series (adult racing series) will be this Thursday, August 10th starting at 5:30PM – we had 8 boats out last Thursday, come see what the action is like!
The last Adult Program class will be this Saturday, August 13th
The last Stanton Series (adult/child racing series) will be this Sunday, August 14th starting at 5:00PM – always a fun time, with a cookout afterwards!
Closing Ceremonies will be on Thursday, August 18th - Closing Ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. with a lite snack of hotdogs & chowder and awards are at 6:30 p.m.
The last Junior Program class will be Friday, August 19th
Friday, August 26th – Last day for Free Sailing (boats come out for the season the next day)

Junior Program Note: Progress reports will be sent out soon to those students who have missed too many classes and/or have not passed the written test. Please see an instructor at the club if you have any questions about the requirements for your sailor continuing on to next year’s level.
